My favorite paintings from Edouard Manet were made at the very end of his life. Fourteen small still life paintings of flowers were perfect jewels, painted with a particular color palette. When this ice arrangement was finished I saw that palette, and if I am being bold, the freedom of expression in the blossoms and stems. The pink borage, the green/yellow of the lisianthus buds, and the pink peony are tossed all together. The ice with its surprises and notes of blue in the depths completes the composition. And then we have the bubbles. There is something so uplifting about the bubble surprises. But they don’t take away sophistication, ever. Shawl sized at 70 inches wide by 45 tall, this piece will also be available in textiles, a few bespoke upholstered pieces (Imagine it as your headboard!), and clothing. Stay tuned!

the making of my scarves and textiles.

I knew that I had to make silk scarves the day I created the Pool & Larkspur photograph. The surface of the water, the aqua background…I could just see it on rippling silk! That put me on a two year journey of trial and error for various silks from multiple suppliers in several countries.

Finding the atelier in Lake Como, Italy, was the moment it all came together. They are as dedicated as I am to sustainable luxury. Of course the edges are hand sewn! Of course the silk is luminous and perfectly mirrors the colors the flowers are giving me! But we are also using sustainable practices throughout the entire process. GOTS certification, certification of non-toxic materials, inks, and finishing, along with responsible packaging and small order fulfillment all mean our environmental footprint is not harmful to our planet or to our person.
